Who are we?
we will publish two digital issues of CrayfishMag annually—one themed issue and one open issue. At the end of the year, We will select some of the published pieces to be included in our annual print supplement that intends to break the limitations of a traditional magazine. We want to reinvent and experiment with our printed editions; they will not be happy on your shelf. We will collaborate with illustrators, pressfolk, and printmakers to make new pieces of art.
Charlie Malone, Co-Editor
Charlie’s first experiences with Literary Publishing were at the Center for Literary Publishing at Colorado State University and with Wolverine Farm Publishing. His work at the Colorado Review, Matter Journal, and other projects led him to dream of one day building a platform to celebrate other writers and artists. Editing the Poetic Inventory of Rocky Mountain National Park and Light Enters the Grove: Exploring Cuyahoga Valley National Park through Poetry are some of his most beloved endeavors. And serving as the advisor to Brainchild Magazine since 2017 is one of the best parts of his job. He currently teaches writing in the community through the Wick Poetry Center at Kent State.
Bella Kaufman, Co-Editor
Bella is currently studying poetry at the NEOMFA. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Kent State University. During her time there, she joined Brainchild Magazine as a staff editor. By her final year, she was the editor-in-chief, interning at the university’s Poetry Center and leading writing workshops for other adults experiencing mental illness. Her poetry has appeared in local and national publications, including Luna Negra and the multi-volume anthology, S/He Speaks: Voices of Women & Trans Folx. Through her work as a writer and editor, she has been able to combine her love of teaching, writing, and other humans. She is grateful to continue this fulfilling journey with Furnace Run Press and CrayfishMag.
JULIA CILANO, Co-Editor
Julia is a poetry student in the NEOMFA. Before moving to Northeast Ohio, Julia grew up in Western New York and attended Hobart and William Smith Colleges, where she triple-majored in French, English, and Critical Sexuality & Queer Studies. There, she was a co-Overlord of Thel, HWS’s literary and arts journal, and there, she found her love for hybrid forms, creative experimentation, creative communities, and artistic collaborations of all kinds. Her poems have been published by Moss Puppy Magazine, AshBelt, and others. When she’s not writing or Crayfishing, Julia loves collage, painting, embroidery, the band Fleet Foxes, and trying to catch leaves as they fall.
